Kellie Flood, MD was born in Waco, Texas. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in physics from Baylor University and attended medical school at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas. She completed her residency training in Internal Medicine and a fellowship in Geriatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, MO. Following fellowship she served as a Chief Resident in Internal Medicine for one year before joining the faculty in the Division of Geriatrics and Nutritional Science at Washington University.
While at Washington University, Dr. Flood was awarded a Geriatric Academic Career Development Award from the Health Resource and Services Administration (HRSA). Utilizing this support, she led the development and implementation of a new geriatrics curriculum for medical students. Dr. Flood also served as medical director for the nations first Oncology-Acute Care for Elders Unit. Dr. Flood joined the faculty in the Division of Gerontology, Geriatrics, and Palliative Care at UAB in August 2006. She currently leads the development of inpatient geriatric clinical services and serves as an attending physician on the UAB Palliative Care Consultation Team and inpatient Palliative and Comfort Care Unit.
