Mark your calendars for Artinis, September 10th

The UAB Center for Palliative Care is hosting its first annual Artinis on Thursday, September 10th at Bare Hands Gallery.From 6 to 9 p.m., guests will enjoy complimentary specialty martinis, an array of hors d’oeuvres, and live music from DJ Brett Levine.  Guests will also have a chance to take home a selection of art from local artists, as well as a fully stocked martini. Attire is dressy casual. UAB Center for Palliative Care Receives Honor from the American Hospital Association

The UAB Center for Palliative Care has been named a recipient of a 2009 Circle of Life Citation of Honor from the American Hospital Association. 

The Circle of Life Award honors programs that:

  • are striving to equitably provide effective, patient-centered, timely, safe, and efficient palliative and end-of-life care
  • are striving to implement the preferred practices for palliative and hospice care quality identified by the National Quality Forum consensus report
  • show innovation and serve as models for the field
  •  support hospitals’ and health organizations’ efforts to improve palliative and end-of-life care
  • build awareness of the importance of serving patients near the end of life well and supporting those close to them
  • are actively working with other health care organizations and the community across the continuum of care

Center Receives HRSA funding for the Alabama Geriatric Education Center Grant Program

The UAB Center for Palliative Care has received funding from the Health Resource and Services Administration (HRSA) for the Alabama Geriatric Education Center Grant Program. This program will train health professionals in medicine, nursing, physical therapy, psychology, dentistry and social work in the following Institute of Medicine identified priority areas: advanced illness, frailty, care coordination, symptom management, medication management, ethnogeriatrics, and health literacy/self management. Center Selected as a Training Site for the AAHPM Clincal Scholars Training Program

The UAB Center for Palliative Care has been selected as one of eight training sites for the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine Clinical Scholars Program. This program is designed to provide a focused clinical experience in hospice and palliative medicine to physicians. Read the full press release.

UAB Faculty, Dr. F. Amos Bailey Appointed to AAHPM Board of Directors

Dr. F. Amos Bailey, Director of the Birmingham VMAC Safe Harbor Palliative Care Unit and Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, has been named to the Board of Directors of the American Academy of Hospice and Palliative Medicine (AAHPM).
