ELNEC Course at UAB
As part of the educational mission of the Center for Palliative Care, the End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium (ELNEC) curriculum is offered through the UAB Center for Palliative Care. The curriculum is designed to advance end-of-life nursing care, but can be beneficial to other disciplines as well such as social workers and chaplains.
Curriculum
Nine modules containing information on Pain management, Symptom management, Ethical/Legal issues, Communication, Cultural considerations, etc. were included. The modules are presented by members of the UAB Center staff and the School of Nursing who are certified trainers in the ELNEC curriculum. Participants completing the training were eligible for ELNEC certification at the end of the course and received 9 contact hours of CEU credit.
Upcoming Courses
The next ELNEC training course will be July 21-22, 2008, in the Margaret Cameron Spain Auditorium of UAB Hospital. Topics covered include: nursing care at end of life, preparation and care at time of death, pain management, ethical/legal issues, cultural considerations, communication, symptom management, quality of care and grief, loss and bereavement.
Registration is $150 for non-UAB nurses. CE credits include 14.4 contact hours ABN, 12 contact hours ASNA/ANCC. Fee includes continental breakfast and lunch, contact hours and materials.
