Research
Why
In a field as young as palliative care, including the specific related science and practice of physicians known as palliative medicine, there is great need for thoughtful and careful fundamental work. The Center maintains an extreme sensitivity to the vulnerability of our patient population and strives to ensure that all research carefully balances respondent burden with clinical benefit.
Priorities
Focus areas for the Center for Palliative Care include: symptom management, systems-based research for identifying optimal health care delivery approaches for advanced illness care, survivorship and bereavement. Particular areas of interest in symptom management include treatment of pain, dyspnea, and cachexia.
Research Opportunities
The UAB Center for Palliative Care Intramural Research Program – The UAB Center for Palliative Care is currently requesting proposals for projects that examine a fundamental question relating to palliative care. The deadline for proposals is November 30, 2007. For more information, download the full RFA here.
